Start of the Year Activities

October is a busy month at CASiLaC as the clusters begin to reconvene and start organising activities for the school year. Following a year of events and discussions, the Violence, Conflict and Gender cluster had an initial meeting on the 29th of September and scheduled their first reading group session of the year for the 24th of October. The text to be discussed is ‘Policing unruly wome. The State and sexual violence during the Northern Irish Troubles, by UCC’s lecturer Theresa O’Keefe. More information about the event can be found in the Events section or on the CASiLaC Facebook group.

An initial meeting was also held by the Memory, Commemoration and Uses of the Past cluster on the 13th of October, which included Dr Cara Levey’s seminar ‘Translational Memory Activism Between Latin America and Europe: Children of Exile’.  Another seminar, entitled ‘Embodied meaning and art as sense-making: a critique of Beiser’s interpretation of Hegel’s “End of Art Thesis” will be offered by the European Thought and Global Inspiration cluster on the 31st of October.
