The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, University College Cork and
Literature Ireland, in partnership with Nano Nagle Place, seek applications from
French literary translators for a residential bursary in Cork. This is an opportunity
for a translator to travel to Ireland and live and work in Cork City.
In early 2025, a bursary of twelve weeks’ duration will be awarded to a French
literary translator working on the translation of a contemporary Irish writer.
The residency will include travel and living expenses, accommodation at Nano
Nagle Place and a work space at University College Cork. The residential
bursary will commence at the end of January and run through April 2025.
The successful candidate will be asked to work on their translation-in-progress,
to immerse themselves in Cork’s rich literary and cultural life, to contribute to
research activity in Translation Studies at UCC, and to hold one public event
near the end of their stay, focusing on their translation work.
Applications should include:
● A brief overview of the translation to be worked on during the residency.
This must be the translation of a work of contemporary Irish literature (in
English or Irish) into French;
● Current CV and two references (including one from a French publishing
house);
● A copy of the publishing contract for the translation;
● A sample of the translation-in-progress (approximately 1,000 words of the
source text, plus a draft translation).

Applications should be submitted to this email address by Friday 8th November.
