Martín Veiga: ‘Tropes of Mobility and Remoteness in Luisa Castro’s Baleas e baleas’
After briefly contextualising the collection and considering its significance in the contemporary Galician literary context, this seminar aims to explore two dimensions of great importance in the book: on the one hand, the notion of transit and mobility; on the other, the symbolic values associated to space, particularly to remote spaces and places of confinement.
5:30-6:30 Book Launch and Bilingual Poetry Readings
Luisa Castro & Keith Payne Launching Whales and Whales
Poet Luisa Castro and translator Keith Payne launch the poetry collection Whales and Whales (Skein Press 2024), the first English translation of one of the most influential collections in contemporary Galician poetry. Whales and Whales navigates the urgent, playful, shapeshifting journey of a young woman affirming her place in the world.
