SURVIVOR TESTIMONIES THROUGH TECHNOLOGY
Holocaust Education in the Digital Age
Workshop
Life Writing Cluster, SLLC, CACSSS
Organised by Dr Claire O’Reilly, Co-Convenor Life Writing Cluster, CASiLAC
In this innovative, interdisciplinary seminar, two leading scholars from Munich and Nottingham and experts in digital Holocaust education will deliver a workshop in UCC.
Open to all and free of charge, this seminar will discuss the marriage of new developments in Holocaust education, advancements in digital media and narrating oral histories in education research. The focus thereby will be on Holocaust survivor testimonies, including the capture of oral history and testimonials in virtual sites and spaces of memorials. The thematic range of subjects and disciplines (Holocaust history, digital innovation in teaching and learning and virtual reality development) will speak to (UCC-)colleagues in several fields, from the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the School of History, to the School of Education. More generally, the event hopes to be of interest to anyone interested in keeping alive difficult histories and prompting discussions of tolerance and a sense of critical questioning within the classroom. This talk will also be of interest to second level and feeder schools in the locality, and schoolteachers will be invited to carry these lessons back to their classrooms to encourage opportunities for transformative learning. The audience is warmly invited to participate in discussions, and there will also be an opportunity to test the interactive testimonies on the day.
To participate and ensure that enough refreshments are available, please RSVP by November 10, 2023: Link to register
