MARCH 5, 2019. A conversation with Nqobizitha Vella – Equality Week

Casilac Administrator February 28, 2019

As you may be aware, next week, 4-8 March 2019, is Equality Week in UCC.

As part of the programme of events for Equality Week, the Centre for Advanced Study in Languages and Cultures (CASiLaC) in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures would like to invite you to join us in the Creative Space in the Boole Library on Tuesday 5 March at 4pm for ‘A Conversation with Nqobizitha Vella’, a feminist Zimbabwean author, writing in Cork. In conversation with Clare Geraghty, student of the MA in Languages and Cultures in UCC, Vella will discuss the ways in which her fiction challenges the traditional expectations of marriage in African countries.

Biography

My name is Nqobizitha Vella. I was born and bred in a city called Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. I am an asylum seeker in Ireland, came to this country in September 2015 with my son, who is now 10 years. I am a published novelist of a Ndebele/English novel entitled Umendo so! (Marriage Mysteries). It’s a series and I am currently on Volume Eight, which I started writing it in February 2018, posting a chapter on Facebook every day during the week. My Facebook page is called Ingwalo ZikaMaVella, which means Miss Vella’s novels. I also wrote a short story for an anthology for the Cork City Library, the book is called A Journey Called Home… (2018)

We look forward to seeing you there!
