Laetitia Devaux
Literary Translator in Residence 2024-2025
Laetitia Devaux is a French translator working from English into French. She studied French and English literature in Paris and at Trinity College Dublin. She holds a Master’s degree from Paris Cité and an MPhil from TCD. After a long year as an editorial assistant in the field of Danish cookery books, she had the good fortune to start translating noir and young adult fiction (including in these respective fields George P. Pelecanos and Michael Cimino, Melvin Burgess and Jonathan Stroud). She then moved on to literature in general, with authors such as Sebastian Barry, John Cheever, Dave Eggers, Vivian Gornick, Lorrie Moore, Justin Torres (who recently won the National Book Award for his second novel Blackouts), and the new European generation, with authors such as Daisy Johnson, Fiona Mozley, Ali Smith, Zadie Smith and, of course, Sally Rooney.
Laetitia Devaux will be based in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures during the second semester of 2024-2025. Besides working on her translation project, she will offer seminars and other activities at UCC while participating in literary festivals and other public events.
