Irlanda Italiana in collaboration with the Department of Italian UCC
is delighted to present
“Elena Ferrante and the Power of Female Friendship”
a presentation by Dr. Nicoletta Mandolini.
The growing popularity of My Brilliant Friend, a series of four novels by the mysterious Italian author Elena Ferrante, has recently brought to the attention of millions of readers the story of a female friendship that is contributing to challenging the long-lasting primacy of male-centred fiction.
Nicoletta’s talk, which will be accompanied by readings from Ferrante’s novels read by Annette Feeney, will explore themes such as love, violence and feminist politics with the aim of drawing attention to the reasons why My Brilliant Friend is the literary work that we (both women and men) need to read in order to understand gender identity and accept diversity.
